Zambesi fashion + cake installation + more

I had the funnest morning being part of a fashion installation for the showing of Zambesi's SS1415 collection. I was asked to assemble the 6 layer Victorian sponge, slathering cream and jam between each layer, and then feed it to the models.

I catered another Stella McCartney breakfast this week thanks to Showroom 22. This time I made banana, oat, cinnamon and raspberry hotcakes, savory health muffins and loads of fresh fruit served with rose water laced Greek yogurt.

By appointment Caker sessions

I thought it would be a good idea to explain how exactly I'll be running my by appointment cake sessions. They will be ideally for groups of 10-15 people, on Saturday and Sunday afternoons; I'll be running them once every couple of weeks, so bookings well in advance are esssential. For groups this size I'll offer 4 or 5 canap├ęs (sweet and savoury (or just sweet if desired!)) as well as filter coffee and varieties of tea. It will be more casual than high tea at a hotel, more like a beautiful afternoon affair where the focus really is on the food and less so the posh atmosphere. There will be flowers, candles, music and an overall casual, relaxed vibe. Costings will vary depending on the amount of people, but will generally be around the $40-$45 a head mark.

The Caker's New Space!

After 4 years of full time baking, The Caker finally has its own premises! Still on K'Rd, in a beautiful, yet perfectly gritty block of shops, sits The Caker, with a bright neon in the window in front of a brown velvet curtain. It was never meant to be a 'cute' place, so the location and starkness of the spot work well; it's an ex art gallery space, with white walls, wooden floors and super high ceilings. The kitchen is designed and built by Jordan's father – French furniture designer Stephane Rondel. It's ultra modern, made entirely out of steel, and highly functional as a cake kitchen.

The front part of the space will be run on a 'by appointment' arrangement, where small groups can book in for afternoon tea and eventually evening dessert sessions. The space can comfortably seat 15 people, so will also be perfect for elegant hen's parties, birthday parties or any special occasion that calls for cake and coffee. There will be a few whole cakes for sale each day, for those a little less organised than the rest, and a fridge full of ready to bake cookie dough, bottles of berry coulis and jars of ganache. The space also allows for intimate baking demonstrations and workshops during the evenings and weekends. There is the possibilty to open the doors to the public every Friday from 10-4, to sell cakes and pies by the slice, cups of bottomless filter coffee and tea.

This concept is expected to become a reality very soon!
