RAW Brownie

Lately I've been reading a lot about the raw food movement. There's so much information out there and you could go on and on explaining the benefits of it, but in a nutshell it's all based on the notion that the most healthy foods for the body are uncooked. Cooking supposedly denatures the enzymes naturally present in food. According to raw foodists, enzymes are the life force of a food, helping us to digest food and absorb nutrients. If we over consume cooked food, our bodies are forced to work harder by producing more enzymes, which is thought to lead to digestive problems, nutrient deficiency, accelerated aging, and weight gain.

I eat pretty well as it is, but I'm trying to incorporate more raw meals and snacks into my diet, just to see if I feel more energetic and get glowing skin as much of the research suggests I will. I started today by making a raw brownie.

I didn't have the highest expectations, but I was shocked at how incredibly rich and satisfying this brownie is. It has a complex flavour that comes from only five ingredients (although those five ingredients were of the best quality I could find, as the true taste of each of them shines through in a big way). The brownie melts and gets all gooey when you eat it, like a good baked brownie should! In this recipe the ground walnuts act as the flour, then you throw in the cacao powder and dates to create this rich, dark, chocolate goodie that you won't regret eating!
